What would drawing with mind be?

What is it to draw with heart?
Korean Western-Style Artist
Where is the light coming from?
The Light coming from the Outer Space
The Oozing Light from Deep Inside
The Light from Deep Inside the Object
The Light from the Window of Mind
All these lights are coming slowly from the darkness, widely spreads out from inside to outside, shows all the things in the universe.
The light brightens dew, air, clouds, the sky, soil, flowers, waves, elements and even all the nuclei of atoms, and we meet things, nature and all the organisms through this light.
These images that come in to our heart from our eyes creates spiritual things in arts.
Drawing is the work that goes into the mind and digs out human nature of self.
This is an action that endlessly peels the shell and goes back to basic.
This is what finds the true self from the inner world.
Moreover, it is what looks at all the things in the universe, goes into that, and meets all the living organisms.
The light lights all the things in the universe, plants the new image in mind, and we are digging out the deep inside while drawing that mind.
In this encounter with all these things in the universe, the eyes of the mind are opened, and the love that comes from deep inside the soul is detected.
When this love overflows, or minds become spring, tree, sky, land, star, and be the one with all the matters in the universe, and you and I become one.
This mind soars up to the mystery of the space beyond the self.
Mind is combined with the breath of the space, and plays the free mind game in infinity space.
What is painting with heart?
What is painting with heart?
It is life vitality to capture essential and primitive things of all things in the universe projected in our hearts, reveal the original figure to the world, and let it breathe. It is an act to let images made deep in our souls in new forms and colors while seeing through things in the mind’s eyes through visual eyes. It is the work constantly changing images from invisible state to visible state. It is happy self-discipline living forever in this moment with the mind’s eye wide open and making all things in the universe and me as one.
The artist’s work expands the audience’s perception of the rain, wind, air, universe order, and the changes in the origins of heaven and earth, which are the beautiful forms of the primeval universe, into a world of infinity. The rhythms of cosmic harmony flow as the energy of sky, the earth, and man is related to each other. The shape of “Obangsaek” (the five colors that represent traditional Korean cultural objects-black, white, yellow, red and blue) declares being one with special order by harmonizing with the sky. The shape is accepting the universal energy overflowing in the whole universe with its whole body.
At last, the universe was conceived in the human body and the body opened toward the universe. Since a human being claimed himself, space order looked crooked but we can see cosmic order right beyond the errors and limitations of awareness by human establishing correct relations with the land and sky.
Artist wants to draw infinite space. He also says that I wander through infinite space. Artist’s job is the work doing endless mind play while walking through such outer space with his soul touch. His soul touch running into the infinite space can be called the Artist’s imagination by lowering the level further. Moreover, along the Artist’s manual work, the play of imagination appears on the screen as an abstract from or specific medium. I think that art is ‘truth’ because the heart of painting artist should create art in the state of leaving all kinds of knowledge and completely forgetting oneself-everything is completely lost in me.

Aesthetics of Fusion Experimental Spirit Containing Ultra Cosmic Art Philosophy
Embracing Eastern Art & Western Art
-Focusing on Analysis Assessment on Min, Tae-Hong’s Art Work and Innovative Development Ways-
Su-Myeong Chae (Art Critic)
Art is a high level of creative world that encompasses history, current social phenomena and future world to open up and leads culture. Because the point is to develop and lead new culture through the message of formative beauty based on experimental spirit under social philosophical art idea and the spirit of the times. In this respect, fresh and creative spirit inaccessible to anyone sets social purification and cultural creation tasks as its mission so numerous artists within the global village are bound to be lonely and rough but even today they are thinking and burning passion to the main character of a masterpiece.
Among them, I formed a connection with Artist Tae-Hong Min receiving attention as the next generation of non-objectivity in the Korean Art World while encountering his works as the judge of a contest a few days ago.
Then, his own advantage is intensity of understanding east and West, exploring the artist’s own creative art world and spreading out experiments in addition to the stream of times through various experiences and a wide range of personal connections shown in a series of works.
Here, selecting a Korean rising artist Tae-Hong Min for French Exhibition, to enhance understanding on the artist and his works, I try to discuss the way of art and philosophical spirit, phenomenological entry work world and analysis assessment as well as future art culture contents according to social change prediction and furthermore, innovative development tasks etc.
- Path the artist has worked on
1) Traditional Art Family
He was born in Samcheok, Gangwon Province overlooking East Sea (“Dong-Hae”) in 1959. His grandfather was rich and graduated from Boseong College and father was a Korean War veteran as an officer. When he was 6 years old, his mother passed away. So, he learned the Thousand-Character Classic and Confucianism from his maternal grandfather, Gwi-Yong Kim who was a town mayor of Samcheok and a scholar of Chinese classics (from Sungkyunkwan) in his mother’s parents’ house in Wondeok nearby -a house like a palace built on 1000 square meters land surrounded by pine trees, bamboo, fig, crape-myrtle etc.
2) Way and Philosophy of Art
He was handed down the blood of art from his maternal grandfather who is a scholar of the Chinese classics and calligrapher with the mentality of classical scholar with the right character. After being strongly attracted to art back in his middle and high school, he had operated the gallery as an artist for about 20 years to find out the answer to the question of artistic soul and learned a broad and profound perspective as an international art distribution expert. Therefore, while encompassing Confucian tradition and Western Art, the quest for the secrets of the giant space mystery hides longing for his mother, hometown, and he sublimated international activities as a middle-aged man to contemplation for Eastern Art and Western Art and cosmic worldview.

In particular, by newly expressing Creation and Mysteries of the Universe in traditional Obangsaek releasing from creative finger painting-a work through hand including nails, fingers, back of the hand, he received a great attention in the Korean Painting World, winning Grand Prize of nonobjectivity part in 32nd Korea Contemporary Art Exhibition in 2011 followed by Cotemporary Award (Obangsaek and Trades of Time) the next year. He is always thinking, wandering speculating about art and the new appearance is expected by establishment shown in the approach containing passion of experimental spirit through experiences.
- Analysis Assessment on this Exhibition and Development Plan
1) Analysis Assessment on this Exhibition
The theme characteristics of works examined through this Tae-Hong Min’s exhibition are as follows:
First, quest passion for outlook on the world where ultra cosmic (space encompassing infinite time and all kinds of things) Eastern thought and practical Western thought and practice are fused in New Millennium times is intense. That is, in addition to the main components of the universe (Galaxies, stars, star clusters, nebulae (interstellar gas and dust clouds), smaller elements (planets, satellites, comets, meteoroid revolving around stars in millions of galaxies and solar system), gravitational field and the different types of radiation are boiling up. Therefore, after explosion (Big Bang) about 10 billion years ago, the universe was filled with radiation but is expressing universe show energy (stars, star clusters, nebulae, X ray source, galaxy, infrared source, radio sources, solar system, expansion of the universe). Expansion theory that materials are dominant as expanding approximately 1,000 years after explosion and Big Bang theory by Hubble’s discovery etc is also included in the expansion of the Universe.
And in early 1920s, Astronomer Edwin Powell Hubble concluded that other galaxies exist outside our galaxy and the establishment of modern cosmology was considered important by Hubble’s discovery
(1929), ” The retreating speed of external galaxies increases with distance” and Albert Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity.
Second, Obangsaek(Red, Yellow, Blue, Black, White/ East, West, South, North, Center) of cosmic oscillatory waves embracing the East and West is inherent.
<Table 1> Tae-Hong Min’s Obangsaek Semantics
|Classification||Contents (Symbol/ Direction, Painting of Four Gods/Five Elements/Seasons)|
|Blue||Cosmology of myth by confrontation of light (sky, sea. water), Symbolization (new and live energy, light of the first moment of Creaton)/East (sunrise, brightness), Blue Dragon/ Tree/ Spring|
|Red||Symbol (sun, expelling demon, evil spirit), Royal robe, a King’s formal dress is made of Red Silk (symbolizing and auspicious sign), All things spread so wild energy is Prosperous/South (turbulence), Phenix/Fire/Summer|
|Yellow||Abundance, China (wealth and authority, memorial to legendary emperor (attire and imperial roof tile)), Illumination, Intuition, Embracing Things/ Center/Soil|
|White||Myth (childbirth and auspicious sign, auspicious omen, self-esteem and perseverance mind, solitude of respect and integrity with supreme noble and pure noble-mindness, classical scholar (innocent virtuous white crane, long crane-white gown)/West, White Tiger/Gold Autumn|
|Black||Symbol (night, fear, destruction, death, honesty, honor), Divinity (bears, turtles, spiders, etc.)/North (cold air current), Barsalt/Water/Winter|
The detailed analysis of his works shown through this is as follows:
First, creative experimental spirit collecting change attempts for overall society based on the global spirit of the times is intense. In the global era when the global already becomes one, the environment is changing rapidly while crossing the space of the East and the West, and the spirit of experiment toward the fusion age in which all areas such as politics, economy, society, culture and religion are conceived as one.
Second, birth, old age, sickness, and death; joy, anger, sorrow, and pleasure; spring, summer, autumn, and winter are contained in this huge theme, ‘Secrets of the Universe’ (Mystery, World).
Third, we can see an attempt to jump into from the digital age to the analog era and vibration frequency of vector by projecting and capturing sociological and scientific phenomena. That is, by analyzing major cosmic scientific theories such as cosmic structure and growth of galaxy, multiverse etc., he attempts to describe by comparing deep cosmic scientific theory and universe with human by compiling journey that life began from the moment of Big Bang in the form of travels.

2) Future Innovative Development Tasks
These exhibition works are the message through the experiment by the concept in emotional thoughts that have been contained in the meantime. So, completeness is not established and thus, by actively accepting relentless criticism (work concept, composition, change, materials, colors, messages, impressive energy power etc.) of vulnerability, future solution of art cultural contents and pursuit of formative beauty through a variety of techniques to increase several octaves will soon remain as a development challenge.
Furthermore, supplementation and innovation for techniques while endlessly projecting and capturing social phenomena under the quest for the social scientific theory and art theory are the challenges as an artist to attain greatness in the future. Like this, message delivery expression techniques are needed under new theory establishment and consciousness and qualities as a cultural pioneer and culture creator as a global social thinker of this society in this era.
In the above, I discussed Tae-Hong Min’s work world, analysis and evaluation on works introduced in this exhibition and development plan.
As a rising artist, he is not hesitating on the existing tradition, but beyond the phenomenology of the East and the West while projecting the past, present and future of the universe and categories, in the spirit of experimenting with a reviewing the old things and learning the new filled with captured enthusiasm in line with the wave of change in the global village, and the creativity toward the vector of the third art world paradigm stands out.
That is, like paintings in the living room that have been loved in the analog era for a long time, by looking straight at the reality disregarded by TV on the wall in the digital age, in order to be a pioneer considering social phenomenological change variables under new theory invention and explore more various studies, I want him to create an immortal masterpiece as an arts and culture creator and as a social thinker according to the professionalism.
What strikes viewers immediately in Tae-Hong Min’s artwork, making them spellbound, are the many and diverse shades of paint (Obangsaek) that the artist uses to express his themes in abstract terms. Truly appreciate his uniquely inimitable art, viewers have to understand the Artist’s inner being, especially his cultural and religious foundation.
Artist Min has been known as “the Artist of light” and for his love of using Obangsaek, the five colors that represent traditional Korean cultural objects-black, white, yellow, red and blue. He might even be the only Artists in the world who uses his fingers, fingernails and nails to apply diverse colors on his canvases.
He is a graduate of Seoul Art high School and Seoul National University (ACP) and Hongik University Graduate School of Fine Arts. He won various prestigious awards from famous arts exhibitions, including the 33rd Korea Contemporary Art Grand Prize.
Winning the Grand Prize in non-objectivity and the Contemporary art Grand Prize in Korea Contemporary Art contest organized by Korea contemporary Culture Art Association three years ago, He began to be recognized for his ability that has been growing over a long period of time. At last, he was invited to the Salon Exhibition, where hundreds of people from all over the world participate every year. As everyone knows, the French National Art Association salon Exhibition was created in Louvre Palace “square court” by Colbert, a prime minister under the reign of Louis XN in 1663 and then, was independent as a modern private exhibition from 1861 and has been handed down until now. This event, celebrating its 152nd anniversary this year, boasts the longest history among Salon Exhibitions. It is held in December each year with the support of the French government and is famous for being held in carrousel gallery, which is located in the basement of the Louvre Museum on Rivoli Street, the center of Parisian culture.
It is said that for this Salon Exhibition, the French National Art Association exhibits artwork that is recommended by representative art organizations of each country, as well as the works of artists selected through a rigorous screening process.
“Obangsaek and Traces of Time,” Artist Min’s contemporary Art Grand Prize work in 2012, portrays aesthetics through Obangsaek, Korea’s unique traditional colors, and presents. a new creative methodology by painting with a wooden spoon and fingers, instead of a traditional brush. Min’s works expressed in such a way are assessed to show the universe’s most primitive life as a sign of non-material shape, such as clouds, wind and waves, said CEO Gi-Young Eom of the Gyeonggi cultural foundation. Mr. Eom is a former anchor at MBC-TV.
Artist Min is a rare artist that makes use of painting techniques perfected in both the East and West, especially in abstract Obangsaek paintings. Obangsaek abstract paintings well express emotional factors contained in Korea’s history and tradition. Ultimately, Obangsaek paintings start from the Oriental philosophy, yin and yang, as well as the Five Elements. It is a form of expression containing deep philosophical speculation expressing the creation and mystery of all things in the universe, and the harmony of nature. It is the speculative art of overcoming the conflict and confrontation of human society and pursuing unification and harmony.
“Also, Artist Min’s work pursues human values, peace and co-existence. As a person who has the experience of participating in the Korean War, I witnessed the brutality and cruelty of war and have made multilateral efforts for international peace and war prevention. War is an act of destroying humanity. This year (2013) is the 60th truce anniversary of Korea. I support the efforts of the Korean people to achieve peaceful reunification through dialogue and exchange, cooperation and would like to show my honor,” commented rep. Charles rangel of the U.S. house of Representatives.
